Demo lesson: using TV series to teach English

This is the stage of a lesson where we work on vocabulary and listening.

Prior to playing the video in class, I sent it to my student so he could watch it by himself so we discussed how much of it he managed to understand on his own. This is part of my project of getting him to a level where he can cope with as many native and non-native accents as possible.

In class, I ask him a few CCQs to help improve his vocabulary and we work on comprehension. Here’s three reasons why I do that I can:

  • expose him to a range of native and non-native speaker accents

  • show him language used in real in everyday contexts

  • to work as a facilitator rather than a lecturer.

How to do it:

I am playing the video from my iPad Pro and sharing it via Zoom Meetings. All you need to do is connect your iPad to the computer using the charging cable and click on share screen + share Ipad screen via cable. And ah, don’t forget to tick the share computer audio sound.
